From tangled alliances to trench warfare, this course dives into one of the most transformative conflicts in modern history. Explore the political tensions, nationalism, and events that led the world into World War I, then unpack what actually happened on the battlefields and beyond. We’ll examine how new technologies changed warfare, how civilians were affected, and why the war reshaped borders, governments, and global power in lasting ways. By the end of the week, you’ll see how World War I didn’t just end an era—it set the stage for the world we live in today. Week 3: World War I Virtual Institute meets: online Monday-Friday 3:00 - 4:00 PM Eastern from July 6 - July 10 Cost: $100 This online class is part of our Virtual Institute series, a set of 8 weeks of learning designed to allow learners of ALL communicative abilities a way to learn and engage with spellers from around the world. We discount our rate to just $20 per class to make our educational opportunities more accessible. Each class will feature instruction and opportunities to respond. Teachers will provide words to spell, reasoning questions with 2 choices, reasoning questions with predictable responses, and open-ended questions. Learners are encouraged to participate as much as they like and to participate in ways that work best for them. Your teacher will email the zoom link with additional class information the week before class starts. A recording will be provided to all registered participants in case your preference is asynchronous participation.
